Carpe Diem! It is always amazing to me, when I am truly present, just how fabulous each moment can be! The seasons are a great angle of time for me. And here in Leelanau, they make these moments even more distinct.
Fall is the time of preparing for the cold, enjoying the last rays of sunshine and thoughts of summer. The leaves change. I write in my music about this outward change as it is so beautifully displayed through nature. We all know that we grow the most in times of change, and change the most when we are vulnerable. So being vulnerable is the key element to being present and in the moment. Allowing ourselves to truly listen, speak, smell, taste & touch with as little of our own agenda begging to have it’s spotlight, as if our ego is a 1st grader, eagerly awaiting her turn with arm raised, bopping out of her seat to be called upon. The present is now, not the past or the future. We can miss the moment if we are waiting to be called upon.
In this gift of now, I am able to be free. When I ask myself to breathe and be grateful for each interaction, each task of the day, and be mindful of each fleeting moment, I am my truest self, my best self. This is when I can be the best giver of self and receiver of others. This is when joy is abundant.
So life is short, even if you live to be 100…we can all feel the speed of time as a freight train coming down the line, fast and furious. This is why I have so many irons in the fire. This is why I fill my life with all the things that ignite the fire that is me: Mother, Wife, Daughter, Sister, Friend, Musician, Chef, Business owner, Barista, Coach, Speaker, Community Advocate, Athlete. I want to grow, share, extend, connect. I want purpose. I don’t want to miss the incredible beauty in each moment. I am here, for a reason, for a purpose and life is short~ as Ani Difranco writes, “Five, four, three, two, one….Kapoweey, your done, your done for good. Did you do, did you do all you could?”
love peace joy and all the very best to you and yours~
